In Her Own Words...The Diary of Mabel Hamilton Hill
The diary, written in 1878,
describes everyday life in a Maine island community through the eyes of a
thirteen-year-old girl. Mabel's diary was handed down to her grand daughter
Marilyn Martin, who decided to give it to her cousin, Raymond Hamilton who
still lived on Chebeague. The diary was the basis for a play written and
performed in 2002, which in turn inspired the first exhibit hung at the
Museum of Chebeague History. The 2003 inaugural exhibit displayed
photographs and artifacts loaned by many of Mabel's descendants.
